Posted on: 01/13/2005 10:02 PM | I purchased a new 2005 Honda Accord about a month ago.
Within in three weeks I realized that the brakes were very
"soft & spongy" meaning the brakes were not tight as a new
car should be. I actually needed to pump the brakes a few
times to get a full stop. So I immediately called the
dealer and arranged to have the car set up for service.
Four hours later at the service department, the mechanic
checked the brake system and found air in the brake line.
He bled the line twice and road tested the vehicle. The
brakes seemed to be better.
A week later the same thing happened, the brakes were again
"soft & spongy", meaning I was stepping on the brakes and
the pedal was all the way on the floor before I actually
was able to stop. At this point, I began to see the
severity of not having properly working brakes; I became
nervous and anxious whenever driving my car. Again I
called service and arranged to have a flat bed truck come
and pick up my car for my 2nd visit to the service
department. The Service Manager and Advisor were very
cooperative; they rented me a car for the duration of the
service. A few days later they call and tell me that the
master cylinder was defective. I asked how can this be on
a new car and was told that it is a factory installed
component and is sealed so they did not know what was
exactly wrong with it. They replaced that part along with
the booster (which they said did not necessarily need
replacing, but since the two components work together they
decided it was better to replace it). I picked up my car
after four days; at that point it seemed better.
Just a few days ago I received a call from the Advisor and
I told him all seemed well with the car. Unfortunately,
that was premature because today I realized that again the
brakes are slipping back into the same old routine. I
bought a new car so that I wouldn't have any problems and
now so far I haven't had a moments peace since the pick up
on 12/1/04.
I have been reviewing lemon law statues and for New York it
states the dealer/service must repair the vehicle at least
four times before a new car and or comparable replacement
or refund is awarded.
I will be taking the car again for service tomorrow; does
anyone have any experience or advise with this type or
problem??
