Posted on: 08/22/2006 09:41 AM | Dear Sandra,
I just got a 2006 Toyota Corolla in early July. I started
getting "eye aches" proceeding to headaches every time I
drove the car for more than 10 minutes. When I got out of
the car the headache would go away. Then I noticed in
highway driving that things moving across the windshield as
I drove by them looked rippling and wavering. As I paid
closer attention I found a lot of distortion in the
windshield glass. Letters on signs would ripple as I drove
by. Trees and houses would distort. Clearly here was the
cause of my eye strain and headaches. I could even run the
tip of my finger across the glass and feel the undulations
in the wavy areas.
Now I was on vacation in Pennsylvania, away from home, but
I went to the nearest Toyota dealer and they agreed the
glass was distorted and replaced it under warranty. But
the replacement glass was just as distorted! They gave me
a bit of a hard time but replaced the replacement. But the
second replacement is also distorted. Then I went to the
sales lot and looked at other new 2006 Corolla windshields.
They all had distortion. Even the sales guy agreed with me
when I pointed it out to him.
I didn't have time to go at it with them again as I had to
come home to New York. I am back home now and have an
appointment with my local dealer to go in and have them
look at the glass.
So here are my questions: Does Toyota just make distorted
glass? I'm seeing it on all the new Corollas I look at and
it's in the two Toyota windshield replacements I got. Are
there optical standards for windshield glass? Are other
people noticing the same problem in their Corollas? How do
I get undistorted windshield glass put in my car so my
headaches go away?
Thanks for any replies. |
