DrJulia99Subject: Backing out of a car purchase

I recently inteded to lease a Subaru Impreza (2005) for
$285/mo. I signed papers for the credit report, and he
said he would get back to me the following day (I went to
see him at 8pm to finalize the car buying). He called me
and told me that because of a prior bankruptcy (college),
and repossession (voluntary, really bad experience with a
crummy dealer and I have idea how to fix it), that Subaru
would not approve me on that purchase. He said to come
back in on Saturday (which is tomorrow) to look for
something else.

I realize that I can make the $285 payments, but the other
car they have for me I can get $240 payments which would be
a lot nicer.

Anyhoo, late yesterday I received a call saying Subaru
changed their minds and would now finance me. They say
there is absolutely nothing they can do about the price,
but they will pay the security deposit and my first month's
payment.

My question is, should I take the Subaru, or try to find
something else? Am I able to look for something else, or
am I bound to buy this car since they were able to approve
me?

Sorry for the length, I will appreciate any help in this
matter.

It sounds to me like they declined your application with out
taking a serious look at it at first. Then with a little
work by the dealer business office they were able to get
you approved. The subaru is a nice car. Compare the
equipment on both vehicles and decide which one YOU like
better and go with that.
