Are there any cars or SUV's out there that provide a
convenient spot for briefcase, purse, files, etc.?  

I am a real estate agent and I always have a lot of "stuff"
with me.  I also have passengers so I can't just put
everything in the back seat. Some of it (like mapbooks) I
need to have within handy reach. I also need access to it
as I get in and out of the car a lot.

The Honda CRV has a large space between the front seats
that is very convenient.  Are there any others??

The Pontiac Aztek and Buick Rendezvous both have a place in
the center console for Briefcases or even a lap top, but it
is hard for me to suggest them for  reliability reasons, a
lot depends on your budget. We will do some research and
give you some other suggestions shortly.

Yesterday I went to my old Toyota dealer to get a new
dipstick (I have no idea what happened to the old one). 
While I was there I got corralled by this eager young car
salesman into test driving a (gag) mini-van.  I was
surprised at what a pleasant drive it was, and he showed me
how the console between the front two seats could be put
between the middle row of two seats.  This made me think of
this thread.  So, chalk the Toyota Sienna up as a
possibility for you real estate agents.  I'm leaning more
towards one of those hot little celica's I saw in the
showroom at this point.  The poor salesman really didn't
have a clue of how to 'read' me.  I'd have felt better
talking to the receptionist.
