Mid-size Envoy returns for 2003 with a twin design that adds a cabin stretcher to expand the passenger load and cargo space. This version -- Envoy XL -- measures 16 inches longer and three inches taller than Envoy with enough extra room in the cabin to apply a third row of seats for two and raise capacity to seven. Both Envoy and XL draw from a standard 4.2-liter in-line-six engine with dual cams and output of 275 hp, a boost of five power points over the 2002 edition. Envoy XL also offers a Vortec 5300 5.3-liter V8 good for 290 hp. With the V8 option, Envoy XL can tow a trailer weighing up to 7200 lbs in two-wheel-drive (2WD) and 7000 lbs for the four-wheel-drive (4WD) model. Two trims work for Envoy XL. The SLE stocks a long list of standard equipment, but SLT brings leather and wood trim, heated seats, dual climate zones, steering wheel controls and optional Bose sound with a six-disc CD changer.
