The 2008 Audi A6 mid-size, luxury sports vehicle is available as a sedan or an Avant wagon. The A6 is one the finest automotive products available today and the Avant is one of the best wagons on the market. It is one of our favorite Audi models. The 2008 A6 sedan version competes with the Cadillac DTS 1SD, BMW 5 Series, Mercedes-Benz E Class, Infiniti M, Lexus GS, Acura RL 3.5, Volvo S80 T6, and the Cadillac STS V8 AWD. The 2008 Audi A6 Avant wagon competes with the BMW 5 Series wagon, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class 4MATIC wagon and the Volvo XC70. The Audi S6 is the powered up version of the A6. It competes with the Cadillac STS V, Mercedes-Benz E-Class Sedan E63 AMG, Maserati Quattroporte DuoSelect, and BMW M5 AWD.

All Audi A6 and S6 trim levels can be customized with a variety of accessories. The five versions come with standard power and heated door mirrors, power and speed-dependent steering, and four-wheel independent suspension. They are also equipped with front and rear anti-roll bars, Bluetooth and MP3 capability, Bose speakers and first-row LCD entertainment system monitors. Only the A6 4.2 quattro and S6 quattro have amenities like steering wheel and memory seats included in their basic packages. Heated rear seats are optional for all versions.
The four Audi A6 versions share similar safety and security features including panic alarm, occupant sensing airbags, perimeter/approach lights and driver front and side, and passenger front and side impact airbags. Rear side impact airbags are optional on all versions.
A safety and crash test report from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) showed average to good overall ratings for the 2007 Audi A6. [1] A reliability history report from ConsumerReports.org for 2007 reflected favorable results since the A6 was redesigned in 2005, receiving excellent ratings for wear-and-tear on its engine, transmission, drive, and fuel systems. [2]
The first generation A6 was introduced in 1994. Since then, it has undergone design changes (second generation, 1997) and engine and interior expansions to evolve into the present third generation A6 series, which was launched in late 2005. The first generation S6 was introduced in 1995 and was, for the most part, very similar to the S4 (the powered-up version of the A4). The second generation S6 models were completely redesigned and had a new platform, with its body panels already largely based on the A6. A shift to a 435-horsepower, 5.2-liter V10 engine with Fuel Stratified Injection (FSI) - the same engine used on Audi S8s - marked the S6's third generation in 2006. The Audi S6 also has two rows of five LED running lights along the bumper which differentiates it from the A6. [3]

In 2005 Audi produced a new version of the A6 mid-size sedan in a format patterned closely after A8 models. It also increased in size, measuring nearly five inches longer than the previous A6 with wheelbase stretched three inches and the width expanded by two. Theme for the shell of A6 is a fluidity of lines drawn in rectangular format but capped by an arching canopy over the cabin with low-slung windows and side pillars muted to create the impression of a sleek coupe. This year, Audi adds an Avant variation to A6. A6 Avant for 2006 resembles the A6 sedan but with a wagon-like tail attached to forge the big cargo bay.
