The 2008 Audi TT sports car is among the best automotive designs on the market today. This unique, sexy roadster comes in coupe and cabriolet (convertible) versions. The 2008 Audi TT 2.0T Coupe (MSRP starts at $34,800) comes with a 200-horsepower, 2.0-liter, turbocharged inline 4-cylinder engine, front-wheel drive system, and manual transmission. The Audi TT 3.2 quattro Coupe (MSRP $41,500 - $42,900) comes with a 250-horsepower, 3.2-liter V6 engine, all-wheel drive system, and manual transmission. Both trim levels compete with the BMW Z4 coupe, Chevrolet Corvette coupe, Ford Shelby GT500, Infiniti G37, Mazda RX-8, and the Porsche Cayman.
The Audi TT 2.0T Roadster (MSRP starts at $36,800) comes with a 200-horsepower, 2.0-liter inline 4-cylinder, turbocharged engine, front-wheel drive system, and manual transmission. The Audi TT 3.2 quattro Roadster (MSRP $44,500 - $45,900) comes with a convertible top and a 250-horsepower, 3.2-liter V6 engine, all-wheel drive system, and manual transmission. Both trim levels compete with the BMW Z4, Chevrolet Corvette convertible, Honda S2000, Lotus Elise, Mazda Miata MX-5 PRHT Grand Touring, Mercedes-Benz SLK, Nissan 350 Z, and the Porsche Boxster.
The Audi TT was first introduced as a concept car in 1995, and was named after the NSU TT. Its styling is considered by many to be unique and revolutionary, and a departure from the current styles at the time it was unveiled. It is also said that the TT was responsible for designating its automaker as serious competition for BMW and Mercedes-Benz.
The first generation TT was launched as the coupe version in 1998, in convertible version in 1999, and saw engine and suspension modifications through the years.
The second generation (2004) came out constructed with steel in the rear and aluminum in the front part of the vehicle for enhanced balance, complete with a more powerful engine equipped with Fuel Stratified Injection (FSI). It has also received many awards, such as Top Gear Coupe of the Year 2006 and World Car Design of the Year 2007.
All Audi TT versions can be customized with a variety of accessories and feature packages. Some share basic and convenience features include automatic temperature and speed control, remote keyless and illuminated entry, power windows, HomeLink garage door transmitter, four-wheel independent suspension, telescoping and tilt steering wheel, leather-upholstered seats, leather shift knob, sport steering wheel, and driver vanity mirror. Auto-dimming rear-view mirrors, heated front seats, adaptive and sport suspension, and the GPS feature is optional on all versions.
Entertainment features in the Audi TT include nine Bose speakers, Bluetooth wireless connectivity, AM/FM/satellite-capable radio, and a six-disc CD player. MP3 capability is optional on all versions.
Audi TT lighting and safety features include a tachometer, low pressure tire warning, rear reverse-sensing system, outside temperature display, driver and passenger airbags (for front and side impact), knee airbags, panic alarm, traction control, anti-whiplash front head restraints, and ignition disable. High-intensity discharge headlights are optional on all trim levels.
A safety and crash test report from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) showed good (five stars out of five) front seat side crash and rollover ratings for the Audi TT (model tested was a 2006 Audi TT Roadster). [1]
A reliability history report from ConsumerReports.org for 2002 (major redesign year was 2000) showed good and very good ratings for the Audi TT's major and minor engine trouble spots, respectively, poor ratings for engine cooling and major transmission trouble spots, and excellent ratings for its brakes, exhaust, and paint and trim.
