The 2007 Buick Rendezvous mid-size crossover sport utility vehicle (CUV or SUV) was introduced in 2001 as a 2002 model. It was built on the General Motors (GM) U minivan platform, which was also the base of the Chevrolet Venture, Oldsmobile Silhouette, Pontiac Aztek, Transport and Montana as well as the Buick Terraza. The Rendezvous and the Pontiac Aztek, are the Edsels of the 21st Century. The two were the first crossover SUVs offered by GM and were poorly received by consumers.

The Buick Rendezvous CUV was offered in two trim levels. The Rendezvous CX had a manufacturer suggested retail price of (MSRP) of $25,925 and an invoice price of $24,287, while the Rendezvous CXL had a MSRP of $29,500 and an invoice price of $27,630.

The Buick Rendezvous competed with the Honda Pilot and the Nissan Murano. Both trim levels were available with a 195-horsepower, 3.5-liter V6 engine, four-speed automatic transmission, and front-wheel drive system.

Seats and trim features in the Rendezvous included five-person seating capacity for the Rendezvous CX, and seven-person seating capacity for the Rendezvous CXL. Both came with bucket, manual driver and passenger seats with lumbar support, power driver passenger seat (available only on the Rendezvous CXL), front center armrest, split-folding bench rear seats, rear seat center armrest, bench third row seats, leather upholstery (available only on the Rendezvous CXL), and a leather steering wheel. A power driver's seat was optional on the Rendezvous CX but standard on the Rendezvous CXL, while heated front seats were optional only on the Rendezvous CXL.

The Buick Rendezvous' basic suspension, handling and exterior features included four wheel independent suspension, front and rear anti-roll bars, power-dependent steering, speed-sensing steering, power and heated door mirrors, roof rack (rails only), and alloy wheels. Auto-leveling suspension was optional on both trim levels.

Convenience features on the Rendezvous included automatic temperature control (available only on the Rendezvous CXL), speed control, power windows, remote keyless and illuminated entry, tilt steering wheel, driver vanity mirror, and OnStar Roadside assistance. A garage door transmitter and front dual zone air conditioning were optional on the Rendezvous CX but standard on the Rendezvous CXL. Power moonroof was optional on both the Rendezvous CX and Rendezvous CXL, while GPS and memory seat were optional only on the Rendezvous CXL.

Rendezvous entertainment features included AM/FM/Satellite-capable radio, single-disc CD player, radio data system, weather band radio, six speakers, and Internet access capability. Steering wheel-mounted audio controls, rear audio controls, and headphones were optional on the Rendezvous CX but standard on the Rendezvous CXL. Additional features for the Rendezvous CXL included performance speakers, entertainment system with DVD, and optional audio/video remote control.

Lighting, visibility, and safety features on the Rendezvous included variably intermittent wipers, rear window wiper and defroster, tachometer, rear reverse-sensing system, four-wheel disc brakes, front vented disc brakes, four-wheel Anti-Lock Braking System, driver and passenger front impact airbag, occupant-sensing airbags, panic alarm, perimeter/approach lights, ignition disable, driveline traction control, and a security system. Features such as compass, outside temperature display, low tire pressure warning indicator, trip computer, and driver and passenger side impact airbag were optional on the Rendezvous CX but standard on the Rendezvous CXL.

A safety report from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) showed that the 2007 Buick Rendezvous received three stars out five (driver) and five stars out of five (passenger) in frontal crash tests and five stars out of five in side crash tests, though it did receive a Safety Concern note. NHTSA explains this as: "Safety Concern - During the side impact test, the driver door became unlatched and swung open. The Rendezvous is equipped with standard Automatic Door Locks (ADL). NHTSA test protocol disables ADL during testing. A General Motors test showed that the door remained closed under similar test conditions when the ADL was activated. A door opening during a side impact crash increases the likelihood of occupant ejection." [1]

A reliability history report from ConsumerReports.org showed how the Buick Rendezvous SUV held up mechanically. The Buick Rendezvous SUV received the following ratings for the year 2007 (major redesign year was 2002): Excellent ratings for its engine, transmission, drive, fuel, electrical, and climate systems, suspension, brakes, exhaust, Very Good ratings for its paint and trim trouble, Good ratings for its body hardware and audio system, and Fair ratings for its power equipment and squeaks and rattles trouble spots.
