The 2008 Cadillac Escalade Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) is credited with helping to bring the brand back from near extinction by attracting the youngest buyers the brand has ever seen. The 2008 Cadillac Escalade SUV is available in two versions, the Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD MSRP $55,990) and All-Wheel Drive (AWD MSRP $58,490). It competes with the with the GMC Yukon, Infiniti QX56, Land Rover Range Rover, Lexus LX, Lincoln Navigator and the Mercedes-Benz GL-Class. Both trim levels are available with a 403-horsepower, 6.2-liter V8 engine, six-speed shiftable automatic transmission, and rear-locking differential. Center limited slip differential is an additional drivetrain feature for the AWD trim level.

The Cadillac Escalade was the automaker's first major entry into the sport utility vehicle arena. The Escalade is based on the GMC Yukon Denali and was redesigned for the 2002 model year to make its appearance fall more in line with Cadillac's new design theme. [1] This model is currently in its third generation, and is being produced in Arlington, Texas.

The Cadillac Escalade has front independent suspension, front and rear stabilizer bars, and an active suspension. It also has short and long arm front suspension, self-leveling suspension, and a multi-link rear suspension.

Exterior features of the Cadillac Escalade include 18 x 8.0 inch alloy wheels, all season tires, a full-size non-matching spare tire, steel spare wheel and an underbody-mounted spare tire. It is also equipped with intermittent wipers, a roof rack, an intermittent rear wiper, privacy glass, and a rear defogger. The Cadillac Escalade comes with a chrome grille, and a power lift-gate door with a manual flip-up window. Exterior truck features include an auxiliary transmission fluid cooler and step running boards.

Cadillac Escalade instrumentation features include a tachometer, a clock, low fuel level warning indicator, a trip computer, external temperature display, and a compass.

Seats and trim features in the Cadillac Escalade include 6-, 7- or 8-person total seating capacity depending on the configuration of the second and third rows of seating. It comes with leather upholstery, a leather and wood steering wheel and door trims, leather trim on the shift knob, alloy and wood trim on dash, and wood trim on center console. It is also equipped with 8-way, height-adjustable, multi-level heating power driver and passenger seats with power adjustable lumbar support. Second and third row seats can be either bucket or manual, folding split-benches. Center, folding armrests are optional. The SUV is also equipped with rear ventilation ducts with fan control.

The Cadillac Escalade comfort and convenience features include cruise control, power-dependent steering, audio and cruise controls on steering wheel, a tilt-adjustable steering wheel, and height-adjustable pedals. It also equipped with three-zone climate control, front reading lights, an electrochromatic inside rear-view mirror, dual illuminating vanity mirrors, front and rear floor mats, and a cargo area light.

Other standard features for the Escalade are front, rear and third row cupholders, front door pockets, power outlets (12V front, 12V rear, and 12V cargo area), a front console with storage, an overhead console with storage, a universal remote transmitter, and retained accessory power.

Memorized settings for the Cadillac Escalade include settings for two drivers (including driver seat and exterior mirrors.)

Power features in the Cadillac Escalade include remote door locks, power windows and retractable, heated mirrors, and two one-touch power windows. An exterior automatic dimming electrochromatic mirror (for driver only), reverse tilt dual mirrors (to curb view when vehicle in reverse) are also standard on the Escalade.

Cadillac Escalade entertainment and telematics features include an AM/FM in-dash single CD/DVD (with a 6-CD changer and CD MP3 Playback stereo), multi-CD located in dash, 10 total Bose premium brand speakers, and one subwoofer. It is also equipped with a diversity antenna, a separate rear audio, an adjustable, speed-sensitive volume control, and 5.1 discrete surround audio. A radio data system, hands-free phone, and OnStar with Turn-by-Turn Navigation telecommunications service are also standard on the Escalade.

The Cadillac Escalade safety and security features include a remote anti-theft alarm system, four-wheel Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS), ventilated front disc and solid rear disc brakes, traction control, stability control, front, rear and third row head airbags, and passenger airbag occupant-sensing deactivation. It is also equipped with front seatbelt pretensioners, rear door child safety locks, child seat anchors, and two front, and three rear multi- and height-adjustable headrests. Other features include an engine immobilizer, daytime running lights, Xenon high intensity discharge headlamps, and tire pressure monitoring. Dusk-sensing and auto delay off headlamps, front fog and driving lights, turn signal mirrors, rear parking sensors, and electronic brake-force distribution are also standard on the Cadillac Escalade.

A safety and crash test report from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) showed that the 2008 Cadillac Escalade received five stars out of five in frontal and side crash tests; and three stars out of five in rollover tests (2-wheel and 4-wheel drive).

A reliability history report from ConsumerReports.org showed how the Cadillac Escalade held up mechanically. The Cadillac Escalade received the following ratings for the year 2007 (major design year was 2002): Excellent ratings for engine, major transmission, fuel system, brakes, exhaust trouble spots; Very Good ratings for its minor transmission, suspension, and drive and electrical system; Good ratings for its paint and trim trouble spots; and Poor ratings for its body hardware, power equipment, audio system, and squeaks and rattles trouble spots.
