The 2008 Cadillac XLR Roadster (convertible) mid-size sports car is the Corvette of Cadillacs, literally. The car is built on the same Y-body platform as the Chevrolet Corvette and in the same plant. The XLR has a Cadillac Northstar V8 engine, while its sibling the Corvette uses the General Motors LS2, V8 power plant.

The Cadillac XLR is available in two trim levels the base XLR Roadster (MSRP $81,490), and the XLR Platinum (MSRP $86,490). This luxury roadster sports car competes with the Audi TT Convertible, BMW Z4 M, Chevrolet Corvette, Dodge Viper, Ford Mustang GT and the Lexus SC 430. Cadillac introduced the XLR concept car at the 2003 Detroit Motor Show, and it entered production in the 2004 model year. [1] It is currently assembled in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Its predecessors were the Cadillac Eldorado and Cadillac Allante.

The Cadillac XLR basic convenience features include adaptive cruise control, speed-proportional power steering, and a tilt and telescopic steering wheel with switches for the audio and cruise controls. It also has front cupholders, a remote trunk release, front door pockets, and a cargo net. Keyless ignition, a front console with storage, a universal remote transmitter, a 12V front power outlet, and retained accessory power are also standard convenience features on the Cadillac XLR.

Power features in the XLR include a retractable roof, two one-touch windows and mirrors, and remote door locks. It is also equipped with an exterior automatic dimming electrochromatic mirror (for driver only), and heated, reverse-tilt dual mirrors (to provide curb view when vehicle is in reverse).

Cadillac XLR entertainment and telematics features include an AM/FM in-dash six CD player stereo, nine Bose premium brand speakers, a subwoofer, and 250 watts of stereo output. It is also equipped with an element antenna, an XM satellite radio, and a radio data system. A DVD navigation system with voice activation, a hands-free phone, and OnStar with Turn-by-Turn Navigation telecommunications service are also standard on the Cadillac XLR.
