The 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt is available in two versions - a compact coupe (MSRP: $14,585.00 - $22,995.00, Invoice price: $13,819.13 - $21,766.58) and compact sedan (MSRP: $14,585.00 - $19,870.00, Invoice price: $13,819.13 - $18,813.45). There are three trim levels available for this model - LS, LT, Sport, and SS turbocharged coupe. The Chevrolet Cobalt compact coupe and sedan competes with the Dodge Caliber, Ford Focus, Honda Civic, Kia Spectra, Mazda Mazda3, Mitsubishi Lancer, Nissan Sentra, Pontiac G5, Subaru Impreza, Outback Sport, Suzuki Reno, Suzuki SX4, Toyota Corolla, Toyota Matrix, Toyota Prius, and Volkswagen Jetta. The Chevrolet Cobalt was first introduced in 2005.1 It is assembled in Lordstown, Ohio.

The LS and LT trim levels are available with a 148-horsepower, 2.2-liter engine. The Sport trim level is available with a 173-horsepower, 2.4-liter engine, while the SS turbocharged coupe trim level is available with a 260-horsepower, 2.0-liter engine. All trim levels are available with an inline 4 cylinder configuration engine. Buyers may choose from a five-speed automatic and manual transmission. This model comes with a front-wheel drive system.

The 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt has a front independent suspension, front and rear stabilizer bars, a modified MacPherson strut front suspension, and a torsion beam rear suspension.

Exterior features on the 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt include 15-inch steel wheels, all season tires, a temporary spare tire, and a steel spare wheel. It has full wheel covers, an inside-mounted spare tire, variable-intermittent wipers, and a rear defogger.

The 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt Sport trim level, meanwhile, has 17-inch wheels and four-wheel disc brakes.

Additional/alternative features on the SS turbocharged coupe trim level include 18-inch wheels, a sport-tuned suspension, and Brembo front brakes. It has different exterior and interior styling cues, a turbo boost gauge, and sport seats.

The Chevrolet Cobalt received the following ratings for the year 2007 (major redesign year was 2005): Excellent ratings for its engine, transmission, drive, fuel and climate systems, suspension, exhaust and body hardware; Very Good ratings for its electrical and audio systems, and paint and trim; Good ratings for its brakes and power equipment; and Fair ratings for its squeaks and rattles.

Other than a tasteless rear wing, the Chevy Cobalt SS is a fairly smart looking car. Its nip-and-tuck styling doesn't help its driving feel, which is flabby compared to the raw Honda Civic Si. A conspicuous gauge on the driver's front pillar is the most obvious sign that you're sitting in a high-performance version of Chevy's Cobalt economy car.
