The 2008 Dodge Ram fullsize pickup 1500 (MSRP: $22,115 - $41,500, Invoice price: $19,825 - $36,685) is available in Regular Cab (two-door, available in 6 1/4-foot and 8-foot beds), Quad Cab (four-door crew cab), and Mega Cab (jumbo crew cab, same wheelbase as the Quad Cab's long bed but pairs its short bed with a larger cabin) versions. It also comes in Base ST, SXT, SLT, and Laramie trim levels. This Regular Cab competes with the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Regular Cab, Ford F150 Regular Cab, GMC Sierra 1500 Regular Cab, and the Toyota Tundra Regular Cab, and; the Quad Cab competes with the Ford F250 Super Duty Crew Cab; the Mega Cab competes with the Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Ford F-150, GMC Sierra 1500, and Toyota Tundra.

Available engines to choose from include a 215-horsepower, 3.7-liter V6 engine, a 310-horsepower, 4.7-liter V8 engine, and a 345-horsepower, 5.7-liter V8 engine. Both six-speed manual and five-speed automatic transmissions are available, as well as both rear-wheel and four-wheel drive systems.

The Dodge Ram fullsize pickup truck is currently in its third generation and currently assembled in Coahuila, Mexico, Fenton, Missouri, and Warren, Michigan.

The 2008 Dodge Ram Pickup 1500 has a front independent suspension, a front stabilizer bar, a short and long arm front suspension, and a solid live axle rear suspension.

Exterior features on this fullsize pickup truck include 17 x 7.0 inch steel wheels, all season tires, a full-size and matching spare tire, a steel spare wheel, and an underbody mounted spare tire. It is equipped with variable-intermittent wipers, a chrome grille, a side-impact door beam, vinyl floor covering, and an engine hour meter.

Basic instrumentation in the pickup truck includes a tachometer , a clock, low fuel level warning, and trailer wiring. This pickup can tow up to 9,100 pounds, if equipped properly.

The Dodge Ram Pickup 1500 Regular Cab has a three-person total seating capacity (up to six-person seating capacity for Quad Cab and Mega Cab); all three have 40-20-40 split bench front seats and vinyl upholstery. The Quad Cab and Mega Cab are also fitted with a 40-60 split bench rear seat, a split-folding rear seatback, and a folding with storage center armrest.

Convenience features on the 2008 Dodge Ram Pickup 1500 include power-dependent steering, a tilt-adjustable steering wheel, and remote driver and passenger exterior mirrors. This model comes with front cupholders, front door pockets, a 12V front power outlet, a front console with storage, and retained accessory power. Basic comfort features are air conditioning and a cargo area light.

Entertainment features on the Dodge Ram fullsize pickup truck an AM/FM in-dash single CD player, CD-controller stereo and 66 watts stereo of output. It is also equipped with four total speakers and a mast antenna.

The 2008 Dodge Ram Pickup 1500 has the following safety and security features: ventilated front disc/solid rear disc brakes, an Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) for the rear wheel, and a passenger airbag deactivation switch. It has front seatbelt pretensioners, child seat anchors, a front center 3-point belt, and two front height-adjustable headrests. This pickup truck also comes equipped with an engine immobilizer, tire pressure monitoring, and electronic brake-force distribution.

More features on the Dodge Ram Pickup 1500 SXT (available only in Mega cab) include a trip computer, an external temperature display, a compass, and an auxiliary transmission fluid cooler. It has an auxiliary engine cooler, chrome finish bumpers, a 4-wheel Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS), and passenger airbag occupant-sensing deactivation. It also comes with a front center lap belt, premium cloth upholstery, cruise control, a passenger vanity mirror, front and rear floor mats, and a cargo area light.

A Sirius satellite radio and 17-inch alloy wheels are additional features on the SLT trim level (not available in Mega Cab).

The Ram Pickup 1500 Laramie (not available in Regular Cab) has stability control, front fog/driving lights, height-adjustable pedals, a remote anti-theft alarm system, and a dual-zone automatic climate control. It is equipped with remote engine start, a universal remote transmitter, leather upholstery, a power driver seat, and heated front seats. More features are an electrochromatic inside rearview mirror, simulated wood trim on dash, seven Infinity speakers, and leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio controls.

A safety report from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) showed that both the 2008 Dodge Ram 1500 Extended Cab and 2008 Dodge Ram 1500 Regular Cab received five stars out of five in frontal crash tests, and four stars out of five (both for 2-wheel and 4-wheel drive) in rollover tests.

A reliability history report from ConsumerReports.org showed how the Dodge Ram 1500 held up mechanically. The Dodge Ram 1500 received the following ratings for the year 2007 (major design year was 2002):
