2006 Mercury Mountaineer Mid-Size Sport Utility Vehicle
Mid-size Mountaineer the Mercury SUV returns in 2006 with fresh sheetmetal styling, a revamped cabin with three rows of seats, new powertrain selections and more on-board amenities, such as power-controlled running boards tucked into rocker panels.

New styling on the Mountaineer makes it look more closely related to the rest of the Mercury family, including the Milan sedan. Its square, utilitarian shape is still awfully similar to the Ford Explorer. The Mountaineer has a cool new door release handle that's shaped to match the natural contour of a person's hand. While it makes opening the door easier, it also forces the door pull to be mounted several inches lower than normal so it's harder to pull shut.
