The 2008 Acura RDX compact luxury sport utility vehicle (SUV) comes in two trim levels - Base (MSRP $33,195) and Base with Technology Package (MSRP $36,695) - and competes with the BMW X3, Honda CRV, Infiniti FX35, Lexus RX350, Mazda CX-7, and Toyota Rav4. Both trim levels are available with a 240-horsepower, 2.3-liter I4 engine, all-wheel drive system, five-speed shiftable automatic transmission, mechanical center differential, and center and rear limited slip differential.
The Acura RDX is currently in its first generation. It was first seen in 2006 at the New York Auto Show, and previewed as the Acura RD-X.
Suspension and instrumentation features in the Acura RDX include four-wheel independent suspension, front and rear stabilizer bar, MacPherson strut front suspension, multi-link rear suspension, external temperature display, trip computer, tachometer, and low fuel level warning indicator.
Exterior RDX features include alloy wheels, all-season tires, inside-mounted spare tire, intermittent rear wiper, rear spoiler, fixed liftgate window, variable-intermittent wipers, power glass sunroof, rear liftgate door, rear defogger, remote sunroof operation, and privacy glass.
Basic Acura RDX seating and convenience features include five-person total seating capacity, multi-level heated driver and front passenger seats, eight-way power driver's seat, sport front seats, driver's seat with power adjustable lumbar support, leather upholstery, 40-60 split bench rear seat, folding center armrest with storage, split-folding rear seat back, power windows and mirrors, remote power door locks, two one-touch power windows, reverse tilt passenger mirror (provides curb view when vehicle is in reverse), universal remote transmitter (for garage door, security system, etc.), cruise control, retained accessory power, speed-proportional power steering, transmission, cruise and audio controls on the steering wheel, tilt and telescopic steering wheel, front and rear cup holders, front console with storage, and front seat back storage.
Comfort features in the Acura RDX include memory settings, dual zone climate controls for the driver and front passenger, cargo area light, interior air filtration, electrochromatic inside rear view mirror, dual illuminating vanity mirrors, front and rear reading lights, simulated alloy trim on dash and center console, leather-wrapped steering wheel, and memorized settings for two drivers (includes exterior mirrors and driver seat).
Telematics and entertainment features in the Acura RDX include pre-wiring for a phone, Bluetooth wireless data link for a hands-free phone, AM/FM in-dash six-CD player with CD MP3 Playback stereo, seven speakers, 360 watts stereo output, mast antenna, one subwoofer, XM satellite radio, speed-sensitive volume control, auxiliary MP3 audio input, and a radio data system.
Additional features for the Acura RDX Base with Technology Package trim level include ten speakers, 410 watts stereo output, XM with NavTraffic satellite radio, 5.1 discrete surround audio, satellite communications telecommunications service, real time traffic reporting, and a DVD navigation system with voice activation.
Safety and security features for both trim levels of the Acura RDX include front and rear head airbags, dual front side-mounted airbags, passenger airbag occupant-sensing deactivation, ventilated front disc and solid rear disc brakes, emergency braking assist, stability control, front seatbelt pretensioners, child seat anchors, remote anti-theft alarm system, daytime running lights, tire pressure monitoring, driver and passenger head restraint whiplash protection system, turn signal mirrors, two front and three rear height-adjustable headrests, 4-wheel Antilock Braking System, traction control, rear door child safety locks, rear center 3-point belt, engine immobilizer, xenon high intensity discharge headlamps, front fog and driving lights, and electronic brake-force distribution.
A safety report from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) showed that the 2008 Acura RDX SUV received five stars out of five in frontal crash and side crash tests and four stars out of five in rollover tests.[1]
