Chrysler 300M...Continued

Our Impression Of The Drive:

Engine Response: 300M is powered by Chrysler's excellent new 3.5-liter, 253-horsepower, 24-valve, all aluminum SOHC engine -- the same engine available in the LHS and the current edition of the fabulous Plymouth Prowler. This powerplant is 44 pounds lighter, and delivers 18 percent more horsepower than the 3.5-liter, cast iron engine it replaced. Fuel economy ratings have been improved over previous Chrysler products by about 10%, delivering 18 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway.

This is the best engine Chrysler has offered in many years. It delivers the power to the front wheels smoothly with a sound that lets you know this sedan can perform as well, if not better, than its competitors. When the driver steps on the gas, the car accelerates evenly without hesitation. It does precisely what the driver expects it to do.

This is also Chrysler's most environmentally friendly engine to date, reducing hydrocarbon emissions by as much as 30%. It meets California's Transitional Low Emission Vehicle Standards (TLEV), Federal Tier 1 standards for 1999, the tougher Low Emission Vehicle (LEV) standards, and European Stage III standards set for the year 2000.

In overseas markets where displacement taxes are an issue, the 300M will also be offered with Chrysler's all-new aluminum 200-horsepower, 2.7-liter, V-6 engine.
