CHRYSLER CONCORDE CONVERTIBLE...Continued

We Looked At:

Roominess: Yes? A convertible with room for four adults? Because the Sebring Convertible (capital C) is based on the Cirrus, not the Sebring coupe (small c) platform, its roominess approaches that of the Cirrus sedan. We're not saying it's five-passenger sedan size, just roomier than most two-door coupes and definitely roomier than other convertibles.

Driving Position: The driver's seat is made comfortable and accommodating for various sizes with multiple adjustments. (A six-way power seat is standard on the JXi. So is a manual lumbar support.) A tilt steering wheel is standard on both models of the car. The dash is uncluttered, attractive and easy to read. As with all convertibles, visibility suffers a bit with the top up, but it won't be in that position often, believe me!

Top-Down Ease: Putting the top down on this convertible is super simple. In fact, most days it will be part of your driver's readiness procedure: put top down, fasten seat belt, adjust mirrors and seating position, start engine. To lower the ragtop, simply flip two latches near the windshield and push a button. Even the windows lower automatically. And it goes back up just as easily. It's easy -- you'll want to feel the breeze every time you drive. Incidentally, the rear window is glass rather than plastic and includes a defroster.

Passenger Comfort: Front seats slide forward for easier-than-most access to the back seat. Considering the hardware necessary in a convertible, Chrysler has done a good job creating a comfortable rear passenger area for two adults. It's windy back there though, and a little claustrophobic with the top up, so when you can, opt for the front seat!

Cargo Space: The lockable center console (a very useful feature when you need to walk away from the car, leaving the top down, and want to protect a few small items) offers some storage space. The glovebox is reasonably roomy. The doors have handy map pockets and there's a pocket on the back of the driver's seat for stuff the rear passengers need to store. The trunk offers a respectable (and rare in a "fun car") 11.3 cubic feet of space.

Safety Features: Driver and passenger-side air bags are standard on both the JX and JXi models. Anti-lock brakes are optional on the JX and standard on the JXi. The knee bolster restraint system and dynamic side impact protection add occupant safety features that help this car meet Chrysler's fine reputation for safety standards. The remote keyless entry, standard on the JXi, includes a panic alarm that sets off the horn and lights to ward off strangers lurking near the car. The power door locks are fast and efficient and can operate off the keyless entry fob.
