Ford Escort Zx2 Coupe...Continued
Features And Driving Impressions: The ZX2 is no run-of-the-mill entry-level car! This hot little coupe was a blast to buzz around town in. Comfort, performance and 130-horsepower made the ZX2 a smile-as-you-drive type of car.
Available in three "equipment packages". All versions come standard with power steering, AM/FM stereo, tinted glass, and tachometer.
The base model, known as 326A or the "cool" package, is a basic model for cooler climates. Air conditioning is an option, but power mirrors, moonroof, and other popular equipment packages aren't available for this $12,995 promotional vehicle.
The "hot" group, with a base price of $13,145, allows for the addition of comfort and safety features, as well as more stylish wheel covers. The 327A package, a $765 option, brings air conditioning, a driver's door (only) remote keyless entry system and rear window defroster.
Our "hot" test car was equipped with the top-of-the-line "preferred " package, referred to as 328A. Air conditioning, an all-door remote keyless entry and anti-theft system, defroster, dual power mirrors, power door locks and windows were all part of this $1390 option. In addition to the 328A package, our test car was also equipped with anti-lock brakes ($570), sport package ($595), upgraded stereo system with cassette player ($165) and floor mats ($45).
The "sport package" option included 15-inch aluminum sport wheels with low-profile tires, rear spoiler and fog lamps among other cosmetic upgrades. Also included in the upgrade were comfortable and supportive all-cloth seats with an attractive chevron-style print. Unfortunately, the sporty rear seats with integrated head restraints won't accommodate the integrated child safety seat option, although the regular (non-sport package) cloth and vinyl seats offer the safety seat option for small children. Rear seats, regardless of the options, offer a 60/40 split/fold down feature that allows for easy access or greater cargo space.
