Hummer H2 Concept...Continued
Greg Bowens, 37, of Detroit used to have a Hummer as his company car. He
considered his big red machine a lumbering hulk that was "too slow and
too hard to drive," with harsh lines.
"The (H2) is more Jeep-like and is much more easy on the eyes," said
Bowens, press secretary to Detroit Mayor Dennis Archer. "With the old
Hummer, you kind of felt like you had to mount an M-60 on the hood,
throw a sleeping bag on the roof and go climb a mountain or two. The H2
still has a tough image, but looks a lot more
friendly."
George Constance, the 47-year-old city attorney from Warren whose
offices are across from GM's Tech Center, has wanted to own a Hummer for
years. He's ecstatic about the H2's design.
"This is fantastic. It's going to blow every other SUV out of the
water," he said, after his first glimpse of the bright yellow H2. "It's
got the popular front and look of the (Jeep) Grand Cherokee. I love to
camp, hunt and fish and I've got a cottage in upper Michigan, and I
would love to have a vehicle like this for trips up north."
Right now Constance drives a Chrysler minivan and an "old" GM pickup. He
thinks the H2 will send his minivan and the minivan market into the
trash heap.
"I would purchase this vehicle, hands down, in an instant," he said.
"Now, I need to convince my wife ..."
