KIA Sportage...Continued
Driving Impressions:
The Sportage, one of the cutest SUVs in the marketplace today, also ranks as one of the most reasonably priced. Standard features include power windows, locks and mirrors. Rear-wheel anti-lock brakes and a full-size spare tire complete with cover and mounted on the rear liftgate are also standard equipment.
The upgraded EX model adds cruise control, rear wiper, alloy wheels and a roof rack to its list of standard conveniences.
Popular options include automatic transmission ($1000), air conditioning ($900), am/fm radio with cassette player ($400) or am/fm stereo with CD player ($545).
The overall styling with Blaze Red paint and optional exterior graphics ($95) caught admiring glances wherever we went. Waves and horn toots from other Sportage drivers broke up the everyday driving monotony. Our test model, with a superior fit and finish both inside and out, was a pleasure to show off.
A reasonably low step in, comfortable and supportive seats, and easy-to-read gauges added to the positive driving experience. Front cup holders, map pockets and a centrally-located clock were just a few of the driver-friendly features.
The Sportage provided excellent front visibility, but the rear D-pillar may hamper visibility for shorter drivers. Maneuverability was remarkable and we believe the Sportage has the best ride and handling attributes in its class. In over 300 miles of highway and city driving, not once did we find the Sportage short on power or attitude.
