1998 Lexus LX 470...Continued

We Looked At:

Roominess: This is a full-size sport utility outside and in. Lexus boasts the vehicle's seating capacity for eight. It's true, there are three seating rows, driver and front passenger, and two rear bench seats, each accommodating three people. Problem is, getting to the far rear is a pain. While eight can fit in the LX 470, five make a more comfortable bunch. Fitting the vehicle into a typical two-car garage is easier with the LX 470 than with many of today's full-size SUVs.

Driving Position: The multi-adjustable driver's seat was a joy for this short driver, a bit intimidated climbing into this great, big vehicle. The power tilt and telescopic steering wheel was also greatly appreciated. The memory system recalls the driver's seat, steering wheel and outside mirror position for two individual driver's needs. Very accommodating. The LX 470 offers excellent all-around visibility and the controls are within reach and easy to operate.

Passenger Comfort: When Lexus introduced the LX 450 (basically a luxury version of the Toyota Land Cruiser), they called it "King Kong in a tux." The LX 470, which is built on a completely new platform and shares little with its predecessor, is still labeled "King Kong," but Lexus now claims "he is more refined and his tux is better tailored." Among other things, this refinement provides passengers greater luxury-car comfort. There's ample head-room even with a hat and plenty of knee-room for long-legs. The leather seats offer soft and smooth sliding for the finest fabrics.

Cargo Space: With the third row of seats removed and the second row folded down flat, there is over 90 cubic feet of space available in the LX 470. With seating arrangements for eight, there are about 19 cubic feet of space for passenger's accouterments.
