Buyer Demographics: After extensive market research, Mercedes found that a whopping 25% of current Mercedes-Benz owners already owned a sport utility vehicle. With the market still shifting from cars to trucks, Mercedes felt the time was right to jump in with a true luxury SUV. Sales records show that four out of the top five selling "cars" in the United States in 1996 were actually trucks, minivans and sport utility vehicles!

Mercedes expects the average age for M-Class buyers to be 40, with an annual income of $120,000. Although Mercedes believes 60% of their buyers will be men, we believe you'll see more women behind the wheel of this luxury SUV. Estimates show that 40% of the buyers will have children living at home.

Availability: Although the ML320 won't arrive at dealerships until fall, it is believed that most of the first year's production is already presold! Over 100,000 people have expressed interest in the new M-Class. To date, 285 dealerships have qualified for the Mercedes Light Truck Franchise, which enables them to sell and service the M-Class.

Features: In true Mercedes fashion, the ML320 comes standard with loads of practical and luxury amenities. In addition to the safety features listed above, the M-Class is equipped with aluminum wheels, heated power side-view mirrors, rear window defroster, 6-way manual front seats, 4-way adjustable head restraints, power windows, cruise control and tilt steering column.

The standard audio system consists of an AM/FM/Weatherband stereo with an auto-reverse cassette player and four speakers. An upgraded Bose sound system with six speakers and subwoofer, as well as a 6-disc CD changer is available as an option.

Mercedes, determined to maintain their high standard of workmanship and quality, chose to simplify their first year's production run by limiting option choices. The only true "freestanding" option available is a power glass sunroof. Two equipment packages plus the upgraded stereo system are available, but all three require the installation of the sunroof.
