ML55 AMG...Continued
Priced almost $30,000 more than the ML320, the ML55 AMG offers an impressive list of components, features and standard items. Starting off with the AMG-tuned V-8 with 342-horsepower and 376 lbs.-ft. of torque, the
ML55 rides on beefy 285/50WR18 high performance radial tires and 8x18-inch
aluminum wheels.
But just approaching the ML55 you'll notice the differences. The sculptured hood with power domes, integrated fog lamps, flared fenders and Xenon headlamps set this apart from the other M-Classes you've seen.
Once inside you'll find an even more luxurious and sporty interior with charcoal leather upholstery and dark burl walnut trim. The power seats come with three memory settings and are heated for those upcoming winter
mornings. White-faced analog gauges highlighted with chromes rings set the
sporty mood, while the 150-watt Bose sound system and its seven speakers
take your mind off the rush hour commute. In addition, a Global Positioning
System and glass sunroof are also standard items.
If you feel $64,900 is a bit steep and a 342-horsepower engine isn't really a necessity, but you still desire more aggressive styling, then look for "sport" versions of the lower powered and lower priced ML models to come out in mid-2000. They're expected to incorporate many of the AMG styling
cues, but with the ML55's signature hood.
