2000 Chevrolet Blazer/GMC Jimmy
By Bob Storck
The Blazer/Jimmy is offered in two basic models -- the two-door for serious
off-road use, and the four-door for the urban warriors. Both have
two-wheel and four-wheel drive and a variety of suspensions and trim
packages.
There are enough comfort and trim items in the Blazer/Jimmy to put
luxury cars to shame. Standard features include remote locking hubs, a
light trailering package, air conditioning, auxiliary power outlets, and
anti-lock brakes.
The two-door has completely different styling, with a forward sloping
rear window. These are the only ones available with the five-speed
manual. The TrailBlazer gets a floor shift package and optional
automated Autotrac system.
Five suspension packages will handle all the demands of suburbia,
off-roading and trailer towing. Serious off-roaders will opt for the
ZR2/Highrider package. GM's OnStar dial-up communication, emergency
assistance and navigation aid is now available. Both brands will be
redesigned in the coming year.
GMC offers an upscale Jimmy as the Envoy, with not only equipment and
interior changes, but some differentiated exterior styling. If the
public reacts well, Envoy may even replace the Jimmy name. They are
celebrating Jimmy's 30th birthday with a special Diamond Edition.
