2000 Isuzu Rodeo
By Bob Storck
Rodeos are capable of handling fairly challenging off-road chores. Base
Isuzu 4wd models have manual locking hubs while the premium versions
allow the driver to operate them from inside without getting dirty. A
shift-on-the-fly capability allows shifting the transfer case without
stopping. This year variable suspension settings are added and may
improve the ride.
Isuzu developed the Rodeo to fill the gap left by the Trooper as it
moved upscale. A recent redesign added more interior room and Isuzu
wound up with a sport-utility vehicle loaded with integrity, versatility
and comfort. Isuzu provided the Rodeo with long 109 inch wheel base. Not
only does this improve ride, but also interior room, especially in the
rear seats and cargo area. The canted forward rear window makes it
appear smaller.
This year all models get 16 inch wheels and there is an optional
outside mount for off road buffs.
The styling is simple and rugged. Isuzu's version of the 3.2 liter,
single-overhead-cam V6 engine produces 205 horsepower. Base models are
equipped with a 129 horsepower, 2.2 liter four-cylinder powerplant.
