2000 Chrysler Concorde/Dodge Intrepid
By Bob Storck
Chrysler was the first to drop out of the traditional full size market,
but they performed some magic with the LH interior and wound up with six
comfortable seats in the Concorde and Intrepid.
Most improvements this year are in the suspension, adding sportiness
but still losing some of the noise and harshness. The long anticipated
Intrepid R/T will be a reality early in the year.
By using a front-end treatment reminiscent of classic Bertone Ferraris
and Aston Martins, Concorde stylists capture elegance and memories. The
winged medallion badge revives the heritage of a proud corporation.
Dodge is slanted at younger performance oriented buyers, with bucket
seats and tougher styling.
In the traditional six-passenger seating, there is an important 2 1/2
inches more of rear seat leg room than before. Even with the sleek
design, there are two cubic feet more in the trunk.
The new aluminum engines are smaller, yet have better performance and
fuel economy than previous engines, and are a good match for the fine
four-speed automatic transmission. All wheel disc brakes complete the
performance image.
