2000 Dodge RAM
By Bob Storck
The most obvious aspect of the Dodge Ram is the pugnacious grille,
which towers over the low front fenders, and hints at the massive
cooling required to allow the 300 hp, 8 liter V10 to live. The
formidable grille is attached to the hood, and raises to ensure good
powerplant access and maintenance.
There are two V8s, a V6, and a turbo-diesel Cummins I6 that has as much
hauling power as the V10. These mate up to three transmissions and three
transfer case variations.
To enhance their rear extended cab accessibility, the Quad-Cab Ram
pioneered the four door cab, that also appeared on first Ford then GM
competitors. Dodge has created a wonderful set of large, accessible rack
mounted boxes and bins that mount to the rear cabin wall.
Ram engineers have added durability everywhere. Rust creating joints
are minimized, and all components are rustproofed or stainless steel.
Small details such as the accessible hex drive for the spare tire lift
will cause owners to appreciate their purchase choice.
A lot of the recovery of Chrysler was due to the Ram, and it has taken
the company from a bit player in this market to a genuine contender.
