Full Size Pickups: C/K, Ram, F-150/250, F-250-550 Super Duty Full Size Pickups, Tundra

These are the modern descendants of the Conestoga wagons that hauled
people and freight around the developing United States. There is no
vehicle that more completely defines the American life than the full
size pickup truck. They convey images of wide-open spaces; progress and
construction; and rugged, sporting pursuits.
Today more pickups are used for personal and recreational use than for
commercial work. They are being styled and equipped with comfort and
even luxury features unheard of a few years ago. Even the biggest heavy
duty trucks are available in upscale models and with a full range of
convenience options. There is no vehicle on the market that is more
modified, and truck trim, convenience and performance items have kept
the after market vendors happy and wealthy.
Full size pickups account for over 2 million sales annually, and are
relatively inexpensive to build, thus have larger than average profits.
Toyota now becomes the first foreign brand to play in this market, and
is aiming for the personal use market, not the every day work truck
segment. There are serious studies underway from Nissan, Honda and VW to
enter the full size V8 pickup market.
Ford has introduced the four-door SuperCrew F150 with a comfortable
five person interior and a flexible dimension bed for most hauling.
Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra get the Isuzu developed Duramax
diesel engine and will finally get four door cabs.
