2000 Acura SLX
By Bob Storck
The SLX was adapted from the Isuzu Trooper to provide Acura with a
luxury sport ute. Unfortunately sales did not match expectations and
when they were further affected by the Consumer's Reports handling
criticism, they pulled the plug. That report has been contradicted by
many independent evaluators and is the subject of a lawsuit. SLXs that
remain on dealer lots are bound to be easy to negotiate for and are a
good value.
The SLX is powered by a large and powerful 3.5-liter, DOHC, V-6 engine,
producing 215 horsepower. The SLX also features a new Borg-Warner
designed Torque-On-Demand 4-wheel-drive system, which transfers power at
the touch of a button. Additionally, this vehicle gets an improved ABS
system, an enhanced automatic cruise control system, updated
instrumentation panel, changes to the AM/FM/CD cassette audio system for
improved sound quality and a new alloy wheel design. Also, the SLX
features one of the longest wheelbases in its class for enhanced ride
comfort.
SLX comes as a fully-appointed trim level that offers a host of
amenities and features that luxury sport utility buyers are in the
market for.
