2000 Ford Excursion
By Bob Storck
The all-new Excursion offers lots of space, utility and convenience.
Still Ford is anxious to point out the attention to safety and the
environment. Despite the tall stance, Ford's BlockerBeam(tm) helps
prevent a car from sliding underneath the front and a standard trailer
hitch does the same in the rear. Amazingly Excursion will be certified
as a low-emission vehicle. With the diesel the Excursion is able to
cover 750 miles - across Texas at the widest point!
Compared with Suburban, Excursion is 7.2 inches longer, 3.3 inches
wider and 5.8 inches taller. Ford claims Excursion fits into a
standard-size garage but be sure to take it home to size it up before
writing the check.
Excursion copied GM's rear tri-panel door with a one-piece upper
liftgate and two lower cargo doors that swing to the sides, even when a
trailer or boat is attached. The large window offers an unobstructed
rear view.
Excursion offers comfortable seating for up to nine adults. Each seat
back in the second row also can be tipped forward and the entire seat
slid forward for access to the third row from both sides of the vehicle.
Excursion has a payload capacity of up to 1,906 pounds, towing capacity
up to 10,000 pounds and the low-profile roof rack has a
200-pound-capacity.
Customer uses for Excursion are expected to range from taking the
baseball team to practice to hauling a horse trailer or boat.
