2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee/Limited
By Bob Storck
This new Grand Cherokee retains the character of the previous model,
but is more fluid, and has lost none of its off road capability.
Exclusive to Grand Cherokee is a completely new four-wheel drive concept
called Quadra-Trac II(tm). It incorporates progressive, speed-sensing,
torque transfer coupling systems at both axles and in the front-rear
coupling. This year all Grand Cherokees can be ordered in 2WD versions.
The driver now has all primary controls at fingertip distance, grouped
on stalks around the steering wheel. Even most radio/cassette/compact
disc controls are integrated on the back of the steering wheel.
Occupants have more front headroom, more rear headroom, 3.1 inches more
rear hip room and 1.2 cubic feet more usable cargo volume.
There are two engines. The first is a refined version of the proven
4.0-liter, in-line six-cylinder engine, which now provides 195
horsepower, yet with 30 percent lower emissions and quieter, smoother
operation. But the big news is the all-new 4.7-liter V-8 PowerTech
engine. It delivers more horsepower than the 5.2-liter engine it
replaced, yet with increased fuel efficiency The powertrains come with a
transmission that features a unique dual-purpose second gear.
