2000 Lincoln Navigator
By Bob Storck
Lincoln hit it right with the Navigator, and this year adds a
navigation system, rear obstacle sensors, side air bags, and power fold
mirrors, all options. Most of the changes from Expedition are in the
body, with a distinctive waterfall grille blended into the hood.
Reflector headlights, fog lamps, and unique rear lighting complete
Navigator's exterior differentiation. Expedition's remarkable air
suspension and most Ford upscale options are standard. Full leather
seating and burled walnut wood accents complete the luxury feel.
Navigator comes in 2WD and AWD configurations, and the latter utilizes
their Control Trac system. Ford's uprated 5.4 liter modular engine is
mated to their 4-speed automatic transmissions, with an 8000 lb. trailer
towing capacity.
Immediately upon entering, creature comfort emphasis is evidenced by
the grab handles at each door, with the exception of the driver's.
Separate climate and audio controls are available in back, and there are
height adjustable shoulder belts for the rear as well as front
occupants.
Navigator handles the road well in all 4-wheel modes. Optional air
suspension makes the Lincoln handle off road, ruts and washboard
surfaces without inducing seasickness.
