Bentley Continental R & T/Turbo R
By Bob Storck
The Bentley is one of the largest cars on the highway, but the 6.75
liter V8, (turbocharged in the Turbo R) is well up to pushing its 5400
pound bulk to high performance standards. This behemoth moves from 0 to
60 miles-per-hour in only 7 seconds.
These cars have a LeMans winning heritage to match their Rolls-Royce
reputation.
The Continental R Coupe carries a name and body style not seen since
before WWII. Only 100 of these special editions will be built each year,
and next year's allotment is almost gone. The Turbo R exterior is
subdued, with the chrome grille and bumpers of other Rolls Royce and
Bentley models replaced with body color components, and a discreet air
dam is added to the front. For those in willing climates, the Azure
convertible will allow you to tour the beaches in style.
Fourteen cows contribute their blemish free hides to the car with a
selection of burr walnut, Bird's eye maple, mahogany or colored lacquer
for the detail highlights.
Each supplier has a long history of quality and craftsmanship, and is
probably more concerned about Rolls Royce and Bentley diminishing their
reputation -- one never knows about these companies which are less than
a century old!
