Cadillac Deville/Concours
By Bob Storck
Cadillac used the Seville/Eldorado chassis and stretched it slightly
for what is now the big Cadillac. The demands for big trucks is so high,
and profit so large, that GM killed the Fleetwood, and replaced that
plant capacity with C/K trucks.
Many foreign car owners are showing up in our showroom now -- a good
indication that their quality is on a par with their expectations.
The 32 valve Northstar V8 is one of the best engines on the market. Not
only does it have power, but it is smooth and ultimately reliable. The
electronic four-speed automatic transmission is one of the smoothest
shifting models ever created. Traction control is a welcome standard
feature.
Constantly Variable Road-Sensing Suspension and 16" alloy wheels with
performance tires control handling.
Chrome on the exterior is minimized, and the Concours has different
lower body cladding and grille. The Cadillac badge is mounted in the
grille on the Concours, and there is a hint of the old tail fins.
The six-seat DeVille has a "air bank" inflatable restrain system to
protect all front seat passengers, a feature unique to GM products. The
bags are hidden in a seamless panel in the dash -- no more obvious
panel.
Standard interior items include leather seats with memory controls (and
optional massaging), Zebrano wood trim, automatic climate control,
remote entry and locking, and everything power actuated.
