Cadillac Seville
By Bob Storck
Seville is a well-balanced sports luxury car, and has features to
address any American buyer desires. But will it appeal to the foreign
market? As an indication of their seriousness, it will be built in both
left and right hand drive versions. Sevilles sold overseas will be about
6" shorter.
It's easy to overlook the external changes, because stylists found it
important to retain the traditional features. Only when placed side by
side with the previous Seville are the changes evident.
The exterior is cleaner and more aero than any previous offering but
the interior is perhaps the most radical departure. It has a sleek
styling, and includes the first adaptive seat that adjusts to the
movement of the occupant.
The final element of Cadillac's Integrated Car Control System is in
place, offering the finest skid control yet available in a production
car.
Cadillac pioneered the OnStar satellite locator system. It has a 24
hour station to provide directions. Second, road service can be
dispatched quickly. Cadillac can trigger the electric lock release
remotely, if keys are locked inside. Third, if the car is stolen, OnStar
is notified, and will track the car for the police. Fourth, if an
accident occurs, emergency services called. And finally, they have the
capability to tap into engine computers to diagnose problems.
