2000 Chevrolet Malibu
By Bob Storck
With the Lumina on the wane the Malibu has been elevated to a more
midsize model. It was always one of those tweeners, overlapping at least
two segments. It's a name that brings to mind some great Chevrolet
memories.
The fundamental strength of Malibu lies in the fact that it is designed
with big car roominess and a sleek, trim exterior. Malibu Sedan now
features a standard 3100 V6 engine and the four cylinder is gone. GM's
4-speed electronic automatic transmission is standard.
Malibu performance is enhanced by a standard 4-wheel independent
suspension. Responsive power steering and a 4-wheel anti-lock brake
system (ABS) are standard. A PassLock theft-deterrent system helps
protect Malibu from theft by disabling the vehicle if an incorrect
ignition key or other unauthorized ignition method is used.
Important standard interior features include a Tilt-Wheel Adjustable
Steering Column, Scotchgard Protector on seats and floor carpeting, and
an electric trunk release.
The Cutlass used to share the platform, but has been dropped in favor
of the Alero so there is lots of capacity for Chevy buyers.
